Ganesha is one of the most important Gods of Hindu pantheon. He is commonly known as the elephant God due to his elephant head. And he is widely known as the remover of obstacles.

There is a mythological story behind Lord Ganesha. One day when Goddess Parvati went to take bath, she asked Nandikeshwara to guard the door and not let anyone enter inside. But being Lord Shiva's faithful, when Lord Shiva came, he didn't stop him from entering. Seeing that she didn't have anyone as faithful to her as Nandi was to Shiva. This lead to some despondency and then she collected the turmeric paste Which she used to clean her body with, and moulded it into a human form, which became lord Ganesha!

On another occasion, Goddess Parvathi, instructed Lord Ganesha not to let anyone in when she would take bath. As a devoted Son, Lord Ganesha did not allow anyone, including Lord Shiva. Despite Lord Shiva’s repeated attempt to convince lord Ganesha, it ended only into a failure. This raged lord Shiva and eventually he slew the head of lord Ganesha with his Trident or Trishul.

When Goddess Parvathi knew what had happened, she immediately rushed to the sight and demanded that Lord Ganesha, being her Son, should be given life. After listening to her side of the Story, Lord Shiva ordered Nandikeshwara to find any animal which faced towards the South while sleeping on the Earth. After some time, Nandikeshwara found an elephant whose head was sliced and brought to lord Shiva.

By this, Lord Shiva fixed the elephant head on Lord Ganesha’s body and gave him life. Soon, all other divine existence present at that sight blessed Lord Ganesha as the remover of obstacle in human life.
